To be honest, i don't enjoy crowds either.

If i visit the states, you have to show me some great places. I don't care if they are famous or not, many of the most beautiful places in sweden are not famous at all.

There is ONE place that i would love to visit, Niagara Falls. :)

Waterfalls

Postby Larry on Wed May 03, 2006 10:55 pm

California has some beautiful, high waterfalls, but they are not nearly as massive as the more-famous Niagara Falls back East. My favorite is Feather Falls, near Oroville, California. The best time to see FF is in the early Spring, when there is a lot of water, and the air temperature is comfortable. The catch is that you have to hike in. The walk is about 15 km, round-trip. The driving time from my doorstep to the trailhead is about 2.5 hrs.

The waterfalls in Yosemite National Park are fairly well-known. But the floor of Yosemite Valley is such a zoo during the Summer, that I am reluctant to go there. [/list]

Thank you for the tips Larry!

I enjoy very much when you tell me about places i don't know. I like waterfalls very much, but we don't have so many of them in Sweden.

I wanted to mention a great resource for waterfall buffs who are planning a vacation in the Western part of North America. Leon Turnbull's website is all about waterfalls. He is a very good photographer. And his website includes some charming out-of-the-way places that are mainly known to local people.

Turnbull's website lets you search for waterfalls in the geographic region of your choosing, and then he tells you how to get there. Sometimes a strenuous cross-country hike is necessary; at other times, the waterfalls are more accessible. Here is the link:

Here is one small example. Bassi Falls is in the Northern Sierras, approximately 80 minutes from Sacramento. I did the short hike in to Bassi Falls several years ago. Since then, a reasonably good road has replaced the old Jeep trail, and the walk is even shorter.
